Good Day All,
I'm also a member of the PCLinuxOS forums and in these forums someone brought up a question of the license that you agree to when you install Mepis. Some thought there were hidden motives behind the license and felt uneasy to accept it. I told them to ask Warren if they have any questions and he would be happy to answer them. I don't really know what their concern is about the license but anyway thats the way I handled it. I hope I did the proper thing. Thanks, Eddie

http://www.pclinuxos.com/index.php?o...&topic=31753.0 I don't know if you are talking about that same thread. We thought that one had come to a close when Tex himself popped into thank GregA for his post, but I see that there are another 2 pages afterwards. Long story short, there has been a concentrated F.U.D. attack for the past several years against Mepis and it's licenses. I am under the impression that this is the work of a few select people who were... for lack of a better term... BUSTED when trying to resell Mepis for their own profit without giving any money back to Warren or by participating in the communities. Yes, advising people who are unsure about the licenses to contact Warren is a good step, and it is the right one. But, there are some people who are NOT going to do that, and WON'T do that so they have an excuse to keep attacking.

Not that I am worried about it,but I am curious about it.
It would be understandable if someone wanted to know exactly what they were agreeing to. Myself, being Mepis and all,I just agree without even knowing. But some may call doing something like that, stupid. It seems that a question,or questions, about the Mepis license must have been asked about before. Isn't there any statements from Warren (for the record)covering the details of exactly what all the aspects of this license means? If for nothing else, but to prove all the FUD is wrong. |

Yes indeed.
Darn! Warren has made some things explicit in the license that in fact are true for almost every Linux distro out there! But when people see it in writing, they start going all 'oooh, my, a license, how bad! Jeez, I don't want the FBI in my backyard! I will just start using Fav Distro B, since that is all peaches and roses...' Using Linux is also an option to stick your neck out for a new model of patents and licenses. Accepting the uncomfortable truth that there may be other parties that could potentially go after you, is part of the game, whether they are right or wrong in doing so is not to the point.
