I installed Mepis 7 on my C2D MacBook yesterday and, in general, things are going well.
I managed to get Compiz-Fusion working reasonably well following the guide in post #7 here. I have the cube and wobbly windows and emerald themes. However, I can't write anything. So, to send this post I had to change the WM from Compiz to KWin. I imagine this is just a /etc/X11/xorg.conf problem that I'll look at later. My biggest problem is that I'm unable to install ccsm and compizconfig-python. In addition, however, being very new to Mepis, I'm unclear on exactly how to add a new repo to the repo list. All the stuff I need is available in the Repository of Shame but I just can't get Synaptic to accept this. Well, it accepts it but complains about 404 errors and none of the stuff I want becomes available. But this cannot be true as I have no problem in directly accessing and downloading the stuff I want from the exact same site. I feel I haven't quite got the hang of how repos are added to Synaptic in Mepis. The repos I want to add are here. Perhaps somebody can tell me what precisely I need to put in the three sections in Synaptic (i.e. URL, Distribution, Sections). BTW, I see fom here (post #10) that it is known that ccsm causes difficulties in Mepis. Has anybody resolved this recently? Last edited by paulfxh : 01-31-2008 at 01:03 PM. |

Hi paulfxh,
Have you tried adding it to your /etc/apt/sources.list instead of adding it in synaptic? Edit: I noticed this in the link you provided Quote:

Yes, this was the first place I tried to put this repo as that's what I'm used to but when I open Synaptic later I get this message:
Quote:
Code:
deb http://download.tuxfamily.org/shames/debian-etch/desktopfx/ stable BTW, if you have ccsm in your system, how did you install it? |

Try backing "stable" up one space. And I can't remember if it needs the "/ ./" at the end. Guess there is only one way to find out. Try it

Well, had already tried every possible permutation as to how I could combine the word "stable/" and "./" after the url.
Sometimes get the error mentioned in my last post and sometimes this one: Code:
W: Couldn't stat source package list http://download.tuxfamily.org stable/./ Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/download.tuxfamily.org_shames_debian-etch_desktopfx_stable_._Packages) - stat (2 No such file or directory) Puzzling. So how did you get ccsm installed? Edit: Just found that ccsm is INDEED present in Synaptic even without Shame's repo. However it's there as CompizConfig-Settings-Manager. Mepis slowly starting to look a lot better. Last edited by paulfxh : 01-30-2008 at 12:03 PM. Reason: Silly error |

Well I really don't know at this point. Maybe post what you have in /etc/apt/sources.list . I am pretty sure I used the same repo but I am not at home right now to check. Maybe someone else can check.

Maybe I can step in and help out. this is what I just copied from Shames
For the stable branch To use this repository, add the following to /etc/apt/sources.list deb http://download.tuxfamily.org/shames...ktopfx/stable/ ./

I don't really use it that often. It's a gimmick to me, nice to show, but not really useful. Regards, Ko |
