i've seen all sorts of posts about this, one helped me for a while before i made some changes and screwed it up. i am trying to make a media pc with a tv for a monitor so i can play super nintendo and watch avi's, etc. i bought a radeon 9200pro, installed all sorts of drivers for it, using dpkg reconfigure, synaptic, and the ati website. i'm sure now i have a mishmash of stuff that is breaking the deal, but on my tv i see a black and white downard scrolling picture that makes me feel queasy.
can someone tell me what i need to do to go from mess of drivers and stuff to working tv output? which driver, from where? what to type to install and enable it? how to make the output go to the tv, and not bother with a monitor? i'm going crazy, i've been researching, typing, and banging my head on the wall for a week now. thanks, i really appreciate your help tim |

Boot from the live cd, making sure to choose the resolution you want at the blue and white screen. When you log in to the live cd system, go to system configuration > administration > mepis utilities. Choose the reinstall xorg.conf option, which will restore your display to the Mepis installation defaults. Reboot without the live cd and log in. Now go to system configuration > administration > mepis utilities. Choose display and mouse. Click on the ATI tab and check the box then click apply to install the official driver.
Simplest way to do it. :) If you want to go the harder route, though, you can follow the instructions from this link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI It may take a couple of tries to get it right, but rest assured that you can always boot into the live cd and restore Mepis default settings to start over with a clean slate. :) |

Ongoing issue!
I have the same video card and the same problem! My ATI9200 will not work right under Mepis-6.0. I get the basic functionality but I want to enable 3D so that I can toy with the new desktop eye-candy like Beryl and XGL. If anyone knows anything please reply to this topic or on my blog: http://codeforfun.wordpress.com/2007...9200-on-linux/ |

I have an ATI 9100, and am using 6.5 RC1. Beryl and 3D work fine out of the box. I could not get it to work under 6.0.
