I stumbled on something that may alleviate (although probably not completely cure) the Black Window Bug. Refer to this thread:
http://www.mepislovers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5633 Here are the steps. 1. Start beryl-manager in the Konsole. The red Beryl symbol appears in the kicker bar. 2. Right click on the red Beryl symbol and click on: Advanced Beryl Options > Rendering path > copy I have a Nvidia GeForce 6150 LE adapter that uses 256 MB of RAM. The Black Window Bug was moderately severe for me beforehand (appeared with more than 4 open windows), but now it seems to be under control: No problem with 8 open windows with 4 windows maximized. This bug is definitely related to the amount of video memory, so your mileage may vary. Hope this helps, joany

joany,
That was easy enough, whenever I find something like that after looking for a long time I wonder why I just didn't just do that to begin with glad you got it fixed ![]() |

Thanks I will try. I have this issue on NVidia, on Intel integrated Beryl works much better.

I found that setting the Rendering path to "copy" degrades the resolution of the Skydome background image. I stumbled on another setting that also seems to alleviate the Black Window Bug and yet leaves the Sydome image resolution intact:
Beryl-Manager > Advanced Beryl options > Rendering Platform > Force AIGLX So it seems there are number of settings that can alleviate this bug. It's a matter of trial and error to see which ones work best. Nvidia are aware of the bug and they could be working on an updated driver that will take care of it, but that effort is probably not too high on their "to do" list. Perhaps the Beryl development team can devise a workaround in the meantime. |
