Default

When you can see your LAN but not the internet it tends to be because the nameserver(s) hasn't been set correctly so you get no outside DNS.

If you are using a static IP address you have to set this manually.
If you are using DHCP to automatically get an address this is usually set for you by dhclient.

You can see what nameserver(s) you are currently using by looking in your /etc/resolv.conf file. Here's mine:

Quote:
search localdomain
nameserver 192.168.0.1
Now, my router caches my provider's DNS server so my nameserver is set to my router. Were I to turn caching off and use my provider's nameservers directly it would look like this:

Quote:
search localdomain
nameserver 65.32.5.74
nameserver 65.32.5.75
If you are connected to the network through a router you should be able to find your nameserver addresses in its setup screens.
