How to set up a MP3 player
With the new 2.6.22 kernel used by MEPIS Linux 7.0, using portable media players such as iPod, Creative Zen, or iRiver has become very
easy. Two good graphical frontend applications available for managing songs and playlists with MP3 players are Amarok and Gtkpod:
- Amarok
Amarok is the KDE music manager installed by default in MEPIS Linux 7, and can be reached by clicking KMenu --> Multimedia -->
Amarok. Most MP3 and other media players will be autodetected by Amarok.
- Plug in your device.
- A dialog box will appear, asking if you want to open it in a new window (Konqueror). Click OK.
- An icon will appear on your desktop.
- Open Amarok, make sure your device is selected, and click Connect.
- Gtkpod
Gtkpod is a platform-independent application specializing in Apple's iPod. It supports the first to fifth generation devices, including
the iPod mini, iPod Photo, iPod Shuffle, iPod nano, and iPod Video. It is available through Synaptic.
